About

Tourist information should provide immediate, personalized information tailored to visitors' diverse needs, but traditional methods were centered on staffed guidance or static content, making it difficult for visitors to obtain the information they wanted right away. Perso Interactive showcased a tourist information solution installed on a station at the Seoul Tourism Expo, introducing a new tourism information service in which an AI Avatar guides visitors by voice conversation to major attractions, transportation options, popular restaurants, accommodations, and more in Seoul, just like a real tourist guide.

Visitors to the expo experienced firsthand how they could naturally converse with the AI Avatar through the station and instantly explore the tourist information they needed. As a result, the company confirmed the practical potential of an AI-based tourism information service, drew strong interest from industry professionals, and successfully presented a conversational tourism guidance model that can also be used in exhibition environments.

Background

Tourist attraction guidance is more than simply delivering information; it is important to provide tailored information that matches visitors' situations and interests. However, existing exhibitions and guidance systems were centered on static content, had limited language support, and relied on one-way information delivery. In particular, foreign visitors often had difficulty obtaining information comfortably in their own language, which could reduce satisfaction with the tourism experience.

Accordingly, there was a need for a new type of tourism information service that could converse in natural language and provide personalized information in multiple languages. The Seoul Tourism Expo was an opportunity to go beyond the limitations of tourism guidance and present the potential of a new tourism information service combined with AI technology, and Perso Interactive introduced its conversational AI tourism guidance solution at this event.

Solution

Using the Perso Interactive station, we created an environment where the AI Avatar naturally provides Seoul tourism information just like a real tourist guide. Visitors can ask the AI Avatar about a variety of tourism information such as major attractions in Seoul, transportation, popular restaurants, and accommodations by voice, and receive immediate guidance, allowing them to experience something like speaking with a real tour guide.

"Are there any places worth visiting near Gyeongbokgung Palace?" or "Recommend a famous restaurant in Hongdae"—even with everyday questions like these, the AI understands the context and naturally provides information suited to the situation, offering an experience that goes beyond simple information search and feels like speaking with a real guide.

Results

At the Seoul Tourism Expo, the AI tourism guidance service encouraged visitors to naturally engage with the experience and provided an interactive viewing experience different from the traditional static way of delivering information. Through conversations with the AI Avatar, visitors were able to explore the information they needed more intuitively, helping deliver an experience in an exhibition setting that was close to an actual tourism guidance service.

It also drew strong interest and positive reactions from both tourism industry professionals and visitors at the exhibition site. The experience of conversing with the AI Avatar and exploring tourism information created a sense of immersion clearly different from conventional guidance methods, which led to continued interest in adoption. This case demonstrated that AI-based conversational services can be effectively used in tourism guidance as well, and confirmed the potential of a service model that can later expand to various spaces such as tourist sites, hotels, and airports.

Recommended for

If you are a manager of a tourist information center or tourism facility, a local government or tourism board official considering the introduction of multilingual guidance services, or a facility operator with many tourist touchpoints such as hotels, airports, and shopping malls, this case will be a strong reference. In particular, it offers an applicable direction for those who want to provide tailored guidance experiences to diverse users, including foreign tourists, and improve existing static guidance methods.

Questions you may have

Q. Can it be deployed on site right away without installation or separate development?

A. Yes. Perso Interactive AI can be deployed on site immediately without separate development or infrastructure setup. However, if additional information or customization is needed, development can be carried out through prior consultation. After development, operation on site is possible simply by placing the station (kiosk) device.

Q. Can it also be applied to tourism guidance in regions other than Seoul?

A. Yes, it can. Because content can be built based on tourism information for a specific region, it can be applied not only in Seoul but anywhere in the country. We design tourism information and scenarios suited to regional characteristics together through prior consultation.

Q. Is it possible to support foreign-language tourists?

A. Yes. Through real-time multilingual support, foreign tourists can conveniently receive tourism guidance in their native language. The range of supported languages is adjusted through prior consultation.

It was much more natural and convenient than searching in a search box. When I asked for the information I wanted out loud, it answered right away, so it felt like I was talking to a real guide.
